Prize Fund & Trophies

The Southend Musical Festival Association wishes to express its thanks to all who have given trophies, donated money or other prizes over the years. Each contributor (unless specifically requested otherwise) is credited against each relevant class within the syllabus.

We’d also like to thank Audrey Cooper, who, every year contributes to the purchase of Gold, Silver & Bronze medals.

The Southend Musical Festival is proud of its collection of trophies which, over the years since the Festival began in 1911, have been donated by public figures and many music lovers and drama enthusiasts who have been involved in the competitions in one way or another.

We feel that it is particularly important not to lose sight of our long and interesting history and have therefore, since the year 2000, been researching the background of the wealth of cups, trophies and other awards which have been donated over the years.

Work on the Trophy detail has involved extensive research into the Programmes, Syllabuses and Minute Books, which go back to the inception of the Festival – this huge task was carried out by Mr. Harry Worsfold, and we are most grateful to him for the time and effort he has put into it.  Our thanks also go to Miss Alex Greengrass, who typed all of Harrys’ notes and Sue Greengrass, our archivist, for the co-ordination and maintenance of all the information.

Apart from being an important historical document for the Festival, we hope that the archive will be a source of interest to our many friends, competitors and, of course, prize winners.

We would appreciate any further information which readers may be able to add.

We hope you enjoy reading the Trophy Lists.
