Get Involved

Southend Musical Festival has a few exciting positions opening up this year and beyond. If you have a passion for providing opportunities for adults and children alike, to participate in Music or Speech and Drama, and you have a few hours spare – we would love to hear from you. Do come and work with us!

Honorary General Secretary

Our Honorary General Secretary position is vacant, thus leaving this role open for someone with excellent organisational skills. As the main point of contact for all Festival related communications, he/she is responsible for all the administrative elements of the Festival, good MS office skills (Word & Excel in particular) are essential.

Treasurer (Trustee)

We are looking for a new Treasurer to oversee, manage and report on the financial affairs of the Festival charity. The role would suit an individual with financial qualifications and experience, ideally with some experience in charity finance and be eligible to become a trustee of the charity. Possessing excellent communication skills, they would join our dedicated, hard-working and enthusiastic committee, interpreting financial data to them and making them aware of their financial obligations. As a trustee, they would be required to attend meetings several times a year in the Southend area and are encouraged to be present during the Festival fortnight.

Chief Steward

We are looking for a Chief Steward who would lead our dedicated team of volunteer stewards during the two week festival in November. The individual would have great communication and interpersonal skills and would be supported by fellow volunteer committee members.

Awards Officer/Co-ordinator

The Festival Awards Officer is responsible for all trophies, medals and prizes awarded by the Festival and is supported by fellow volunteer committee members. The role would be ideal for an organised individual who would be able to volunteer some time prior to, during and following the Festival fortnight.

Section Secretary

We are looking to fill the Piano & Wood Wind and Brass Secretary roles, both of which are vacant. Responsible for administrative duties relating to their section, they work in conjunction with their section convenor and the Honorary General Secretary to ensure all aspects of their section run smoothly.

Other Roles

We are always seeking people who have free time, to help volunteer on an ad hoc basis, particularly for the two weeks of the Festival. The jobs we need help with, range from moving chairs around to serving refreshments, announcing competitors, recording results, to helping calm the nerves of parents whose children are excitedly anticipating going to perform.  All you need are empathy, tact and common sense, and in return you have the pleasure of working in a friendly, supportive team, meeting other volunteers, the satisfaction of supporting people who are bravely putting themselves in the spotlight and the opportunity to marvel at, and be moved by, the depth of their talent.

Please look back regularly as we will publish any Festival vacancies or volunteering positions when we have them.

Do please contact us if you have any more questions, or for further details if you are interested in helping out. We look forward to hearing from you.
