   The 2019 Strings Section will run from the afternoon of Friday 8th to Monday 11th November.

 

STRINGS

Adjudicator: Lorraine Deacon, GRSM, LRAM

ALL CLASSES ARE OPEN TO COMPETITORS FROM ANY DISTRICT

COPIES OF OWN CHOICE must be provided for the Adjudicator (failure to do so may result in a loss of marks). The Music Publishers Association has recently issued a revised code of practice on copying copyright works:

“When an Own Choice work is selected from a publication containing several different works and which is not published separately, one copy may be made for the use of an adjudicator at a competition or festival provided that the competitor or participant has already purchased his/her own copy and that the copy made is retained and destroyed immediately after the event. The accompanist should always be given a printed copy.”
Own Choice Classes (other than Recitals): Unless otherwise stated, 1 or 2 pieces may be played; performers must keep to the overall performance time for the class

The following overall awards will be made:

The Jerry Mayes Challenge Cup:
at the Adjudicator’s discretion, for the most promising Guitar player (Classes 341 – 343)
The Leona Phillips Challenge Cup:
at the Adjudicator’s discretion, for the most promising Violin Duet (Classes 370, 371)
The Gerwyn Parry Memorial Trophy:
at the Adjudicator’s discretion, for the most promising young String player
(15 years and under) in the Section

GRADED CLASSES – only ONE class may be entered
Any one piece from the examination syllabus of Associated Board or Trinity/Guildhall from 2000 onwards. Competitors must not have passed any grade higher than the one from which the choice is made and must not play the piece in any other class in the Strings section.
